A Message from Unchained at Last:
Gary Schaer just prevented New Jersey from ending child marriage. The reason the state legislator gave: Eliminating this human-rights abuse that destroys girls’ lives would harm the Orthodox Jewish community.
But Jewish law in no way requires child marriage. Unless Schaer is referring to a long-abandoned biblical interpretation that required a rapist to marry his victim and pay her father 50 shekels of silver.
This calls for a Chain-In. Let’s gather outside Schaer’s office on Sunday in bridal gowns and veils, with our arms chained and mouths taped, to show him what life looks like for a girl in New Jersey who is forced to marry – and to help bring him out of the Dark Ages.
Also, if you’re in New Jersey, email the assembly speaker here to urge him not to cave to Schaer’s evil nonsense.
